Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

We listen, assess and provide solutions that give you more out of life.

"Occupation" refers to all of the roles that you do or want to perform in your everyday life. Working, driving, shopping, bathing, cleaning, dressing, cooking, and everything in between.

If you or someone you care about has a disability or a chronic disease, a little additional help from an NDIS Occupational Therapist, or OT, in your everyday life may go a long way toward enhancing your future and supporting your desire for greater health and happiness.

Whether you are seeking occupational therapy or NDIS assistance for yourself or a loved one, Sydney Health Clinic will assess your situation and provide customised services under the Improved Daily Living NDIS to help you accomplish the things you want and need to do in the most effective way possible. Call us at 1800 952 434 to learn more today!

Occupational Therapy and NDIS

In Australia, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides a range of therapy and allied health treatments and assessments for people with disabilities. Funding within the Improved Daily Living NDIS category can be used to finance a range of therapies, including Occupational Therapy under the "capacity building" support category.

Occupational therapy is a type of allied health therapy that improves a person's overall capacity to care for themselves, accomplish important daily chores, and engage in social and recreational activities. This can vary from regular tasks to more complicated life skills.

Sydney Health Clinic is an NDIS Registered Provider that helps participants have access to the NDIS in order to participate in a wide range of appropriate treatments and activities. Our Occupational Therapists begin by meeting with clients to assess their current skills and abilities, then partner with them to establish specific goals. They may then plan how to enhance a person's existing abilities even further as part of their assessment, helping them to move towards their defined goals.

How Can a Functional Capacity Assessment Help a Person with a Disability?

The NDIS Occupational Therapist Assessment has several benefits for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Individuals who have disabilities frequently undergo occupational therapy assessments to help them get back on their feet and live independent lives.

An NDIS functional capacity assessment is a thorough in-home evaluation conducted by a registered OT that identifies a person’s needs and support requirements. An OT comes to your house and talks with you and your supporters. They may also join in on some of your typical daily tasks with you. The OT will then write a detailed report about the support you need. They will also make recommendations about what other things may assist you in meeting your goals.

A Functional Capacity Assessment can assist you with:

  • Describe what you can do on your own and what you need help with
  • Determine any unmet needs
  • This will show the level of assistance required
  • Please provide documentation of your disability and functional abilities.

What is the Process for Getting a Functional Capacity Assessment From Us?

Step 1: Make an Enquiry

To start, please use our contact or referral pages or call us directly. Please provide your NDIS number if you are an NDIS participant. The 'Improved Daily Living' NDIS category is within your NDIS plan's Capacity Building support fund.

Step 2: Application Evaluation

Next, we review your application to see if we are the ideal service for you and which of our OT therapists will best meet your needs. We give treatment as necessary based on your requirements, and each of our therapists has a unique skill set within these therapeutic areas.

Step 3: The NDIS Service Agreement

This is done during your initial appointment and covers information such as the OT's therapy services, pricing/cost of services, responsibilities, what happens if the agreement changes, and how to provide feedback.

Step 4: OT Functional Assessment

Depending on your needs, between 2 and 6 hours, your assessment may take place at a clinic, in your residence, in the community, or via tele-health.

Step 5: Reporting

When the plan is completed, the report will be sent to you for submission to NDIS. The OT Functional Capability Assessment Report will give information on your existing functional capacity. It will make recommendations for future therapy, support, assistance, and equipment.

Step 6: Continuous Support

The number of our OTs' rehabilitation sessions varies; this information will be included in our service agreement from the first assessment through continuous assistance.

What is an Occupational Therapist?

Occupational therapists are skilled allied health professionals who thrive on helping people of all ages and medical histories become less dependent on others and more capable of taking care of themselves in their daily lives.

They work primarily with children to develop independence and essential functional abilities (e.g., motor skills, social skills), as well as adults who have been injured or have long-term medical conditions.

With a deep understanding of a person's functional capacities, including psychological, physical, emotional, and social, occupational therapy professionals may assess and evaluate how your condition is affecting you with a person-centred approach. They also rely on studies and scientific evidence to guarantee that their initiatives are effective.
