Sydney Psychology

Several factors could cause psychological problems in anyone, both positive and negative, particularly for individuals with disabilities who do not regularly engage in everyday activities at home or in their communities. While these daily activities and goals aren't directly tied to mental health, psychological issues like anxiety, depression, and psychological stress can have a massive impact on a person's health.

The NDIS is an Australia-wide scheme that gives access to NDIS mental health treatments to support participants in dealing with the day-to-day burden of psychosocial disability.

This article outlines how the NDIS funds will be used for psychological therapy, what challenges psychological treatment can help with, and how Sydney Health Clinic can support NDIS participants with psychological needs.

What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a medical specialist who studies behaviour and mental processes. They have undertaken extensive education and training to provide specialised psychological services and goal-oriented strategies to help patients with mental health problems and encourage them to engage in purposeful involvement in their everyday lives through psychological therapy.

Psychology and the NDIS

The NDIS has been fully operational in Sydney since early 2015, while it began in select places in 2013. Under the NDIS, Australians under 65 years of age with chronic medical conditions or permanent disabilities can get legal assistance to enhance their independence, engage with their community, and live their lives to the fullest with freedom and choice. Psychology is classified as "Improved Daily Living" in the Capacity Building category. You must confirm that your NDIS Plan includes this line item to use the service.

Improved Daily Living in the Capacity Building category provides funds to access an allied health practitioner and is often flexible across different therapeutic services and training.

To receive NDIS funding, a person (referred to as an NDIS "participant" under the scheme) must fulfil specified eligibility requirements and provide documented proof of their disability and its impact on their daily living abilities. In general, the NDIS requires that a person submit letters and documents from certified health care providers to validate their diagnosis (or diagnoses) and indicate how their impairment impacts their daily life.

Sydney Health Clinic -  NDIS registered provider in Sydney

An NDIS psychologist takes a professional, therapeutic role in their client's life, offering guidance, support, and restorative treatments to guide and help them recognise, accept, and deal with their problematic emotions or behaviours.

As an NDIS-licenced provider in Sydney, Sydney Health Clinic is devoted to keeping the National Disability Insurance Commission standards in providing therapeutic assistance to participants and necessary communication with their families and support coordinators.

We understand that selecting the right service provider these days might be daunting. That is why our approach is to give therapeutic assistance to NDIS participants and their families compassionately and flexibly. Under the NDIS, Sydney Health Clinic implements a three-stage cycle approach for psychological therapy, which includes:

If your NDIS plan includes Improved Daily Living under Capacity Building funding, you can access support at Sydney Health Clinic. Our team provides NDIS psychology services to help improve your daily life. We will complete the assessment and provide training and therapy to increase your skills, independence, and community participation.

Assessment

As with other therapeutic procedures, the assessment phase is the first step in the psychological process. This is for the psychologist to evaluate or understand the client's personal and medical background. Questionnaires and interviews with you and those who know you well can be used to assess you (with your permission). It often includes details about their childhood and youth, medical conditions (both physical and mental), growth, family, education, job, and current primary concerns or challenges. Our practitioners need an assessment to plan and tailor the training and therapy you receive.

Planning

We develop a treatment plan together after we understand you better and know your challenges. The treatment plan will be based on research-based evidence and tailored to your needs.

Therapy

Therapy focuses on how you think, feel, and interact. As psychologists, we understand how the brain influences our ideas, feelings, and behaviours. We utilise evidence-based treatment in therapy to educate your brain so you can act in more helpful and healthy ways.

Review

We will formally evaluate your progress after six sessions (depending on your symptoms). This evaluation typically follows a review of your progress.

Fee structure for NDIS Psychology

Our fees for NDIS participants at Sydney Health Clinic are set at the regulated amount by the National Disability Insurance Agency. Fees are collected for all services, including treatment hours, travel time, and report writing.
